A Parent Workshop on LGTBQ+ Inclusion with The Safe Zone Initiative!

Updated: Sep 18, 2022

The Pittsford Central PTSA DEI Committee Presents

Date and Time: June 17th : 7-9 PM

A safe zone or a safe space is actually not just a place! It’s also a frame of mind and a way to embody and carry yourself. A nonjudgemental environment that promotes honest dialogues where folks can bring their authentic and wholistic identities without fear of being discriminated against based on gender identity, gender expression, or orientation.

The SafeZone Initiative was set in place to create more visibility for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, increase knowledge and provide skills to individuals or organizations to address the barriers in place for LGBTQ+ folks and help and empower people to advocate for equity across the board. This is our lived experience that we have translated to help create inclusive and loving spaces in your organization. We never enter into a space with the intentions to change anyones perspectives or make people believe something, instead we want to help plant the seeds to get conversations moving in the right direction and help create a world that is more inclusive and intentional for people across all intersections.

Please join Pittsford Central PTSA and The Safe Zone Initiative in an interactive and engaging workshop. This event will include opportunities to ask us ANY and ALL questions and have the opportunity for live interaction with our facilitators.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

The Safe Zone Initiative!

We are the former Education department from the formerly known Out Alliance, Rochester LGBTQ Resource Center. We have provided high quality LGBTQ+ inclusion trainings for K-12 districts, colleges & universities, healthcare agencies, religious institutions, non-profits, and corporations. Between the three of us, we have facilitated over 400+ trainings for organizations around the U.S!! As part of the LGBTQ+ community ourselves, we use our first hand knowledge and experience to provide best inclusion practices, tips, and tangible ideas to create an LGBTQ+ empowering environment.

Lori Cramer - Logistic Lead (She/Her/Hers)

Lori is a masters graduate from Nazareth College of Rochester. In her most recent role as Director of Education at the Out Alliance, she lead and co-facilitated LGBTQ+ inclusion trainings around the U.S. She managed all the scheduling, invoicing, contracts and logistics for the team. Organization is her thing! She has attended 9 diversity related conferences around the world helping to strengthen her skills as a social justice advocate. She has always been passionate about the LGBTQ+ community and has dedicated her life’s work to creating a more loving and accepting community.

Zariah Williamson - Passionate Presenter (She/Her/Hers)

Zariah is a young, vibrant, community activist transgender woman of color and a steady voice for change and empowerment all over New York State. Zariah collaborated with many organizations including the Lesbian Task Force, GLSEN, Black Lives Matter, The Network, and Center Link. Her mission is to educate, empower, and celebrate differences. She is also the former Education Coordinator at The Out Alliance. As a community staple, she has participated in creating safe schools, inclusive work environments, and “bridge the gap between LGBTQ people and LGBTQ of color and remind us that intersectionality is a crucial place to start a dialogue for change.” Her main passion is fighting injustice and breaking down misconceptions and stereotypes for the transgender community and people of color. She thrives on creating an environment that all individuals feel free to express themselves and challenge them to think outside of the box! “ I do this for the people & culture” Peace and Love.

Kayden Miller - Curriculum Creator (He/Him/His)

Kayden has graduated from the University at Potsdam with a Bachelors in Archaeology and Museum Studies. After graduation, Kayden pursued a more active role in social justice by fighting to create and facilitate more LGBTQ+ inclusive environments. Currently working toward his masters in Museum Studies at Syracuse University, Kayden is still dedicated to providing training opportunities for all of those interested in creating safe and affirming environments for LGBTQ individuals. To date, Kayden has facilitated over 500 trainings for K-12 schools, colleges, universities, medical providers, law enforcement, and cooperations.
